Listen: On the Road Listen: Saudi, Manifa,
to Saudi set in for the Night
“Manifa…my gosh we were back here.” As we rolled through the
gates of Manifa my heart kind of sank a little bit. All I remembered about
Manifa was the weeklong miserable stay here getting Red 5 repaired; doing
work parties every night and day until we could get Red 5 repaired and
returned to Delta’s lines. But what Delta was not aware of was the fact that
we would be here for another full month before our chance to go home
would arrive. Days and days of endless stand down work parties, loading and
unloading trucks, counting ammunition, cleaning the vehicles and
disassembling, cleaning and reassembling weapon systems. Days turned to
weeks and we started to wonder just really how long we were going to have
to stay. There was no word telling us one way or the other. Each day we just
went through the routine. Truth be told, Delta would be one of the first
combat units in and one of the very last to leave...
st
Tent City…. Just take a look at this photo, the power of the 1 Marine Division is undisputed….
Heavyweight champion of the world, Militaristically as well as logistically. Once back at Manifa
we were astounded of how fast the complex took shape. Yet Delta would always say, “First
in…last to leave.”
