came to the front of their Platoons. The 1Sgt did an about-face, and as so
many times before waited…only to see a proud, chest out, sauntering Capt
Roger “Rock” Pollard making his way over to his friend and ally to receive
Delta Company from the 1Sgt.
The aura of victory surrounded the Captain, glowing so thick you
could almost see it. Capt Pollard stood for a minute in front of his friend,
grinning, exchanging unheard comedic antics. Finally rendering a hearty
hand salute, representing the exchange putting Rock in charge of the
formation. Rock cut his salute, followed by the 1Sgt.
“At ease War dogs. Pretty motivating, ay Gents? Well, we just heard
from the good General, the war’s officially at an end. By the way, we will be
taking that victory lap before we head out. As you can see by the people of
the City, they are extremely grateful to you (as he pointed to each and every
Platoon).”
Rock continued, “You did what I asked you to do. I told you we
would make it, and here we are! We did not lose a single man in the
Invasion, not even a vehicle breakdown. Astounding! Delta, whether you
know it or not, this is one for the record books. And I am very proud of this
day, and I know that you men are too (as he pointed to each Platoon). Your
families are celebrating with us today, but we still have a lot of work to do.
We will not have a formal dismissal; I will simply bring you to attention and
from there break formation and you will move to your vehicles. We will be
headed to take our much earned victory lap in 15 Mikes; then, we will
regress to Saudi. Gents, I want every Delta Asset rolling…… ATTENTION!!!...
MOVE!!!”
