would have his vehicle (American Hero) on the move in five mikes.
Suddenly the call came out… “Delta 7, Delta 7 this is Delta 6 over.”
I looked at Gunny and said, “They’re calling us, the Captain is calling
us.”
“Well give me the helmet, unless you want to talk to Delta himself!”
I stood there looking at Gunny and heard for the second time, over
the encrypted helmet, “Delta 7, Delta 7 this is Delta 6 over.” I sort of froze
for a minute and Gunny yanked his helmet off my head, took mine off and
handed it to me.
Gunny placed his helmet back on and immediately responded with,
“Delta 6 this is Delta 7, solid copy.” I could hear the conversation as I was
standing right next to Gunny.
“Copy Delta 7, we are inbound to your POS in four mikes leaving the
coil. I will be taking the far west end of the FARP and observing. Let’s get
Delta moving Delta 7. We will start with 1st Platoon, followed up with
Headquarters assets and finish with 2nd Platoon, 1stLt D. Kindle as the final
asset rolling through. Be advised Delta 7, as my clock shows 5.5 hours
running backward now before daybreak, Regiment is adamant about the
FARP heading south no less than 15 minutes before sunrise.”
“Solid copy Six.” I was on the back of the Logistics vehicle looking at
Gunny Dell as he began to call for the Platoons to come to the FARP.
“Delta One, Delta 7 over….. Delta One, Delta 7 over…..”
“Roger Delta 7, this is Delta One. How copy?”
“Delta One, send your first two assets to the predesignated
coordinates of the FARP, over.”
“Roger, Seven. First two assets Oscar Mike.”
“Be advised FARP is set in West to East orientation as discussed. We
are on the clock Delta One. Will advise when your two assets are clear of the
FARP, have the next two units standing by. We only have so much time.”
“Roger Seven, we’ve got ‘em stacked up and ready to roll.”
“Headquarters, Headquarters, this is Delta 7 over… Headquarters,
Headquarters this is Delta 7 over. Be advised, stand up Headquarters Platoon
and make ready all assets to be ready to move to the FARP.”
“Roger Seven. This is Delta 8. We are standing up to stand by for
movement to the FARP. Delta 8 will coordinate two assets on the move as
per instruction.”
“Solid copy. Delta Two, Delta 7, Radio check... Delta Two, Delta 7,
Radio check.”
“Roger Delta 7, I have you Lima Charlie.”
