“Aye-Aye Sgt Reynolds. We’ve got a box where we are putting
everybody’s mail. You can count on that letter getting there.”
Gunny gave the instructions, “OK. You’re going to get fuel at the first
station and your driver is to watch the scouts fill the vehicle up with diesel.
The second stop is going to be the POLs. The third stop will be ammunition,
and your final stop will be chow acquisition. OK, let’s move through it Red 5.
You are the very first here and let’s set the pace; be thorough but be quick.
Move out.”
Sgt Reynolds and Mikey both responded, “Aye-Aye Gunny.” Sgt
Reynolds gave instructions to LCpl Baker to roll to the fuel pumps.
“Delta 7, Delta 7 this is American Hero, we are arriving at the West
end of the FARP at this time. We will be observing traffic passing through the
FARP.”
“Copy that Delta 6.”
I could go on and on in a microcosm of detail about every man and
every instance of that night, that each Delta element said, did, performed
like, exchanged conversation, etc.… but what I will say is that GySgt Steven
Dell called each component of Delta Company by twos to come from the
safety of the Company Coil to pass into the FARP; and we did this, and it was
successful. And by 0630 hours, the sun was rising in the East, the very last of
Delta Company was on its way back to reform the Company Coil. We were
behind the power curve 30 minutes, less 15 from our original estimated
mark getting the supply trucks of Regiment heading back on time, but not
one word of disapproval derived from Regiment comms…. Now all other
assets belonging to Delta Company were reset in the Company Coil around
American Hero. All in all, it was done, and Delta Company was stacked to the
gills with wartime equipment for the Invasion.
