MISSION BRIEF TO DELTA COMPANY

18 Hours, 10 Minutes Prior to Invasion of Kuwait
                          2/23/1991 @ 8:50 am / 0850 hours

Captain Roger “Rock” Pollard, Company Commander of Delta
Company 3D LAI Briefs the Company, eta 0900 hours

Time wore on, Matt and I enjoyed the strong coffee… of course,
black, no cream or sugar…. Out here it was coffee – black. Suddenly a buzz
began to sound throughout the Company Coil. The encrypted radios were
piping off… it was Bob Krause, encrypted radio specialist sounding off from
the LAV-C2. “Delta Company, Delta Company this is Delta 5, again I repeat,
this is Delta 5. We need all Delta Assets to gather at American Hero’s POS.
Standby for further word. Move with full gear – weapons, helmets and flak
          jackets. Move now….”
Matt and I looked at each other and gave a nod of acknowledgement
to Delta 5’s directive. We simultaneously swallowed down the remints of the
last of our Tasters Choice coffee. “Let’s move brother. We don’t want to
keep the Skipper waiting. I’m anxious to hear the word. I’ll see you there
Matt. Let’s see what is coming down.”
“Roger that Witch. I’ll grab my gear and see you there.”
Marines went about retrieving their gear as requested by Delta 5…. I
think Delta 6 wanted to see everybody in their full battle rattle gear, just
reinforcement for him to see that everybody was ready; Locked and Loaded!
Marines of Delta Company 3D LAI had heard the call and within the Company
Coil, we went to be with our leader, Company Commander Roger “Rock”
Pollard. He and the crew of American Hero had spent all morning (starting at
daybreak) creating a mock-up map on the ground showing how the entire
Invasion for Delta would take place. The map even showed the different
phase lines that would be our gateway into Kuwait City.

After Matt and I broke contact to get our weapons and our Kevlar
helmets as instructed by Delta 5, I entered the back of the logistics vehicle
