THE GEARBOX
The gearbox of of the the drill consists of of the the following parts:
Gearbox cover cover plate plastic gears gears planetary gear gear gear gear gear hub steel gears gears gearbox cover cover and internal gear gear PLASTIC GEARS
These gears (figure 8) were situated at at the the motor end of the the the the gearbox and are used to to to slow down the the the incredibly high rpm from from the the the electric motor They They are are made from from nylon with glass fibre content for added strength They They are are are also an off the the shelf product as they are are readily available in large quantities from many suppliers As such they only cost around $0 01 each [2] Figure 8 — Planetary Gears (Jack Drapier 2016)
PLANETARY HUB + STEEL GEARS
The Planetary gear hub (figure 9) is is used to centralise the the rotation of the the previous three nylon gears It is is is made made from low carbon steel and is is mostly custom made made The The insert insert pins pins would be off the the the shelf components These pins pins are then inserted into the the the custom made plate plate via a a a a a a a a a a a a process of heat heat treatment where the the the plate plate was was heated up to to expand it and and the the the pin was was cooled down to to to contract This allowed the the the the the pin to to to enter the the the the the hole and as as the the the the the metals cured they clamped into each other The costing for this part in in total would be around $0 15 — due to to the the small size and high simplicity of the the part (estimated by an an industry expert) 11

INTERNAL GEAR The internal gear gear (figure 10) is used to to house the the the the repeated use use use of of three gears to to to slow down the the the the the rotation rotation of of of of the the the the the motor It also facilitates the the the the the rotation rotation of of of the the the sets of of of three gears It is is made from low carbon steel and and is is a a a a a a standard off the the the the shelf component Due to the the the the larger size o of the the the the the part part and and and the the the the the higher complexity compared to the the the standard spur gears this part part cost approximately $0 15 [2] Figure 10 — Internal Gear (Jack Drapier 2016)
