Make a couple of eyes so the fender can be attached to the boat. Collapse the
loop with the splice in the center. At the two ends, form eyes that measure an
inch (25 mm) or so. Seize them nicely with tarred nylon.
Cut 10 pieces of ⅜-inch (9 mm) polypropylene measuring 18 inches (450 mm)
each. Polypropylene is the material of choice for the core, because it’s less likely
to rot than manila, it’s lightweight, and it will bend more easily to conform to the
shape of your bow. Parcel these lengths of polypropylene firmly around the ½-
inch (12 mm) manila, at an even distance from each eye seizing.
