PURPOSE
To get teams working together and sharing leadership.
DESCRIPTION
Teams must put a shuffled up newspaper or magazine back in the correct order.
PARTICIPANTS 16-24
TIME 20 minutes
SUPPLIES
Newspaper or magazine for each group
Steps:
• Prepare for activity: Take apart a magazine (remove staples) or newspaper and put it back together with pages in the wrong order. You will need a magazine or newspaper for each team. All groups should have the same type of publication (magazine or newspaper) so they are all working with the same page layout format.
• Divide the group up into small groups of 4 to 6. Each group should gather around a table or have some space to work on the floor. Explain the game: Each team will receive a magazine (or newspaper.) The pages will be out of order and the team must put them back in order. The first team to complete the task wins.
• Hand out the publications asking teams not to touch them until you say “Go!” The first team that finishes the task should yell out when they are done.
• Bring the whole group back together and lead a discussion on the following:
What was your strategy or plan for the task?
Did it take you a while to get the plan together?
Was there a leader who emerged in the group or was leadership shared by team? Was leadership taken or elected?
Were the leaders effective?
