xpectations
PURPOSE
To make sure all questions on the meeting or training topic have been answered and to review material that has been presented during the session.
DESCRIPTION
Participants write down their expectations for the meeting or training to help guide the facilitator and to help review at the end of the session.
PARTICIPANTS
Training group or team that is meeting
TIME
2 minutes at the start of the session, 5-10 at the end
SUPPLIES Pens and paper
Steps:
• Before you start the session, hand out a piece of paper to participants and ask them to write down what they are hoping to get out of the session. What they write can be questions they hope to have answered or concerns they have on the topic. Give them 2 minutes to think and write. They should not write their name on the paper, but hand it back to the facilitator before the meeting starts.
• Once you have collected the papers, take a quick look through them and make sure any common concerns or questions are addressed in the agenda.
• At the end of the meeting or training, randomly hand one of the sheets of paper to each participant. Ask them to read the question or concern and attempt to answer it. Ask for a volunteer to start. After that person has read the question or concern and given their answer based on what was learned or discussed during the session, ask if others have something to add. Go around the room and ask others to share as well. No need to repeat similar questions
or concerns, but make sure everything that was brought up in the papers is covered.
• If a question or concern is off topic or requires a longer answer or clarification, take time after the session to talk with the person who wrote it and help them find the resources to have their question or concern answered or addressed.
