ctorAssumption
PURPOSE
To differentiate between “fact” and “assumption.” Good to use if there are rumors or grumbling going around about the changes being made in the organization
.
DESCRIPTION
Participants describe an object and then tell if the descriptions are facts or assumptions.
PARTICIPANTS 6 or more
TIME 15 minutes.
SUPPLIES
Flip chart, markers, objects
Steps:
• Hold up a shoe or other object and ask participants to describe it. List their descriptions on a flip chart.
• Once the shoe has been described, go through the list and ask participants to tell which characteristics are facts and which are assumptions (ex: “It is red,” is a fact. “It is a woman’s shoe,” is an assumption.)
• Now ask for some facts and assumptions about the changes going on in your facility that may have been incorrectly labeled as “fact” or “assumption.”
• Lead a discussion with the following questions: What happens when “fact” and “assumption” get confused? How can we prevent assumptions from being made and spread?
• Make a pact that everyone will seek out or share truthful information about elements of the organization’s transformation.
Stop the rumors and share the truth
