PURPOSE
To see, in many cases, we are the masters of our own fortunes. We have control over a great deal of what happens in our lives and in the way change will affect our lives. We may not always be willing to take the risk or sacrifice to get something done, but when it comes down to it, we can only look to ourselves to make great things happen for ourselves. This knowledge is a lot of responsibility, but it can also award us freedoms and happiness.
DESCRIPTION
Participants will think of things they can do to make the good fortunes from cookies come true.
PARTICIPANTS 5 – 12
TIME
3-5 minutes for writing, about a minute for each participant to share, 5-7 minutes discussion
SUPPLIES
Any cookies and a fortune for each participant
Steps:
• The leader of this exercise needs to arrange for a cookie for each person and “fortunes.”You can use pre-made fortune cookies or make or buy any sort
of cookie yourself and make up the fortunes. The fortunes should foretell
a success such as “You will make a major breakthrough” or “Success is
just around the corner” or “You will wow your coworkers” etc. They can be organization or vision specific, but also make them a bit general to leave room for some interpretation.
• Each person gets a “fortune cookie” with the instructions to “make it happen.” Ask them to take 3-5 minutes to write a game plan for how they can make their fortune come true.
• Ask individuals to share their plans. Once everyone has shared, open up for discussion on achieving goals.
