IV. Listening: The Silent Half of Reminiscing and Storytelling Activity #1: Reflective Listening – Listening Stick* (cont’d)
9. Open your eyes and state the question that comes to you and pass the listening stick to the person on your left, who will respond to the new question and repeat the process. The last person in the circle to respond also generates a question, even though the exercise stops at that point. (Note: When you are not holding the listening stick, your job is to listen to what is being said. It is not a time for you to respond to what has been said, or to ask questions. Notice how your mind may wander when someone else is speaking. Train yourself to be present. Practice undivided attention.)
10. When everyone has finished, acknowledge and thank one another. Spend the next 15 minutes debriefing the experience. Explore the following questions:
• What was it like for you?
• What did you hear?
• What did you notice about the process? • What opened up for you?
