 Second checking point
Students were asked the same questions as in the previous checking point and this is a summary of their thoughts and mine:
• The focus helped them a lot to eliminate some of their most common mistakes.
• However, the focus areas for some students was repeated several times.
• It was difficult to choose only one focus sometimes so perhaps too many were given each week.
A quickly trialled strategy
As the school year was coming to an end, I decided to try once a strategy I had used a few times with other classes. It consisted in collating errors made by them in several writing tasks, to write in brackets the number of mistakes on each line, and to ask them to find them and to correct them. An example of this strategy can be seen below.
