A simple checking with students after a few weeks, confirmed they were finding this strategy effective, useful and manageable for eliminating their common errors.
All the strategies used contained the characteristics of effective feedback, namely:
• Tangible
• Actionable
• Timely
• User-friendly
• Ongoing
• Consistent
• Focused on a goal
And it worked for speaking too!
It was a very encouraging to establish that using a similar approach to error correction in speaking, specifically the focusing on eliminating one type of mistake at a time, worked extremely effectively. For instance, it helped with the eradication of the mistake made in the pronunciation of the silent H in Spanish within two terms.
