8. The Three Billy Goats One day the goats look up. They see green grass on the next hill! “Look at that!” says the Baby Goat. “That grass is long. That grass is green. That grass is for me! I can get to that grass when I go over the bridge.” Baby Goat walks onto the bridge. But he doesn’t know that a nasty troll lives under the bridge. The troll hears something. “Hello! This is my bridge! Who are you?” he shouts. Baby Goat is afraid. He whispers: “I am Baby Goat.” ‘’Where are you going?’’ asks the troll. ‘’I am hungry! I want to eat the green, green grass.’’ says the Baby Goat. “I am hungry too and I want to eat YOU! Come here!” yells the troll. “Oh, Mr. Troll, please don’t eat me! Wait for the next goat. She is big! Wait and eat her!” begs the little goat. This is the story of the three Billy Goats: Daddy Goat, Mummy Goat, and Baby Goat. They live together on a grassy hill. The three goats are always hungry. They eat, and eat, and eat. Soon there is no grass left. They are again hungry and they are sad. 44
