9. The Musicians of Bremen. Simon the farmer has a donkey. Every day, Simon goes to the mill. The donkey carries two sacks of corn. But one day Simon puts six sacks of corn on the donkey’s back. That day the donkey gets very tired and its back and legs hurt. Then the donkey has an idea. The donkey wants to go to Bremen, the town of music. It wants to be a musician and play the flute. The donkey says good bye to Simon. The road is long and the night is quiet. Then the donkey sees something. There is a dog sitting under a tree. WOOF! SHOOF! ‘’You are so funny!’’ says the donkey. ‘’I sound funny because I have got....ATSHOOH! ATSHOOOH!!!...a cold! I can’t bark and my master has got a new dog,’’ says the dog. Donkey gets an idea and invites the dog to come to Bremen, the town of music. ‘’You can become a musician and play the drum!’’ says the donkey. The donkey and the dog walk along the road. The road is long and the night is quiet. Then the donkey sees something. There is a cat sitting in the road. ‘’You look sad!’’ says the donkey. ‘’I am sad because I am old. I cannot run fast and the mice aren’t scared of me. My master is scared of mice and I cannot help her!’’ says the cat. ‘’ Don’t worry! Come with us to Bremen, the town of music. You can become a musician and play the violin!’’ says the donkey. The donkey, the dog and the cat continue their road. Then the donkey sees something. There is a rooster in a tree. ‘’You look very sad!’’ says the donkey. 52
