The Card Game
Sitting around the table with a deck of animal spirit-cards we all laughed with joyful
spirit.I turned mine over - a shark! No way, I thought. Sharks are fearless, hungry for
blood and solitary, right? One out of three aint bad...
Samantha read the card: “Shark energy takes over when we are hesitant to be honest,
to be totally ourselves, or to say what we want….”
Esalen’s spirit was alive and at play. A seemingly random card echoed Jasmine’s
sentiment along with my exact thoughts from the week.
The End is not the End
Standing in a circle on an expanse of grass leading to rugged cliffs above the Pacific
ocean, we held hands and bowed our heads. Our time together was coming to an end.
Jasmine gave the final words. We hugged, wiped away tears and promised to remain
friends.
How do I put my experience to words? I’ve come to understand that I don’t have to. I
have them stored in that place where I give life to story. It is as intimate as the characters
I create.
For now, I can let go of that lifeline, knowing it’s always there, alongside my new-
found friends, and The Writing By Writers Foundation.
