Pan Chang Good Luck Knot
The pan chang good luck knot is a square good luck knot. The knotting technique for
the ear loops on all four sides is the same as for the pan chang knot, i.e. the wrap and
pull technique is used. The rest of the knot uses the good luck knotting technique, i.e.
the press and insert technique. The size of the pan chang good luck knot can be con-
trolled by varying the number of ear loops. The knot can also be made with com-
pound/overlapped outer loops by changing the knotting sequence of the ear loops.
This knot is usually tied with eight outer loops.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Use the pan chang knotting technique to line up the ear loops on all four sides. If
you are knotting clockwise with a single cord end, you must arrange the loops on the
first three sides using the pull technique, i.e. pulled underneath the ear loop.
2. Use the press one, pull one technique on the last side. If you knot with two cord
ends, then use the pan chang style, i.e. use the press technique on one side, the pull
technique on the other, and the press one, pull one technique on the last side. Repeat
the process on the ear loops.
HINT
When tying the first layer, make sure that the linked cords between the ear loops are
wrapped around the loop coming from the opposite side.
