down on others. Those who arrogantly take salvation for
granted through their insincere acts cannot earn Allah's ap-
proval and compassion:
Do you not see those who claim to be purified? No,
Allah purifies whoever He wills. They will not be
wronged by so much as the smallest speck. (Surat An-
Nisa: 49)
In the Qur'an, Allah reveals that such people's insincere

efforts will not save them, and that they will be devastated:
Say: "Shall I inform you of the greatest losers in their ac-
tions? People whose efforts in the life of this world are
misguided, while they suppose that they are doing
good." (Surat Al-Kahf: 103-104)
It is also revealed in the Torah that boasting is a charac-
teristic of poor moral values:

This is what the Lord says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wis-
dom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his
riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and
