  USED SAILS
Mary Brennan
Spring is finally in the air and after what seemed an endless winter of snow and ice interspersed with wind and rain we can all start to turn our minds to getting the boat ready for a wonderful summer –we can hope that it will be as endless as the winter. Sometimes this preparation includes replacing sails, cushions and/ or lines and if you are doing any of this and have no personal use for the items being replaced then rather than discarding them please consider putting the items in the box at City Station near the exit gate.
Canadian Food for Children (CFFC) a registered Canadian Charity is able to make good use of such items. They are sent to the third world, often to El Salvador, where they can be used to cover windows and roofs to prevent water leaks and other such purposes.
The program started over fifteen years ago by Dianne Matheson following a chance meeting and
conversation has been very successful and a couple of years ago the Club built a box at the City Station where the donated items can be placed and arrangements are then made to have them picked up and delivered to CFFC.
As mentioned above CFFC has also indicated that they can make use of discarded sail bags, cushions and unwanted lines as well as sails.
So a reminder to everyone as you are gearing up for the Summer of 2019 that any unwanted sails, cushions, sail bags and lines can be deposited in the box at City Station and these items will have a second life and you will have made space in your locker, helped the environment and given some comfort and shelter to a family.
