 COMMUNITY SPEAKER SERIES
Margaret Winter
The Community Interest Speaker Series had another successful season with the highlight being Commodore David Howard, a decorated WWII Naval office speaking about the Battle of the Atlantic.
90 Members and guests were registered for dinner with many more filling the Sports Hall for the lecture. Did you know that only 10% of the convoys crossing the Atlantic with food, clothing and war supplies were detected by
the U-boats and of those, only 10% were sunk? Should you wish to hear more fascinating details of the Battle of the Atlantic, check out the video on RCYC’s YouTube channel.
I would like to send a special thank you to the RCYC Management and Staff, especially Beverley Darville, our Archivist, for collecting the photos for the presentation, Elisabeth Mior, Membership Director, Vivian Rutledge, Catering Manager and many more behind the scenes for their willingness to assist with the preparation of this event.
A special shout-out also goes to our other presenters:
Jim Baxter, ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY DIRECTOR, CITY OF TORONTO,
Jean-Gabriel Castell, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND THE QUEST FOR IMMORTALITY and
Dr. Hugh E. Scully, THE CRITICAL ROLE OF PHYSICIANS IN IMPROVING MOTORSPORT SAFETY WORLDWIDE.
Next season is already booked and it will, again, be a popular series.
I have a question for you. If speakers are available, would you be interested in attending a talk in October or April? Or, are you busy with boats at this time of the year? Send me your comments at Margaret@MargaretWinter.com.
