Paul let the audience know that Commodore Howard was to be inducted into The Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame at Kingston Yacht Club on August 18th.
To honour David in a more formal way, Commodore Chris Mitchele announced that the Junior Club building will be named the Commodore David E. Howard House. He presented a plaque that will grace the Clubhouse as a reminder of Commodore Howard’s
many sailing accomplishments after he joined the Junior Club in 1928.
The highlight of the evening was when Commodore Howard spoke about memorable experiences on Gardenia, his beloved yacht of the past. He also shared very interesting stories about the war and his youth that riveted the crowd. He was articulate demonstrating a sharp, compelling memory. At 100, he is still a force.
David Howard Jr. says “We were all moved by the level of love and affection that the Club and the Membership has for my father and we are happy to continue to share him with everyone as in some important ways, he embodies the very being of the Club.”
