In 2018, the J105 Lake Ontario Fleet created a Hall of Fame to honour those who have contributed to the success of the Fleet. With a rich history of friendly competition and camaraderie the Fleet has become the largest one design keelboat racing fleet on Lake Ontario with 20 boats, of which fifteen are at the RCYC.
This year a formal dinner was held in the RCYC’s Bistro 1852 on Tuesday, March 10th to honour our second
Scott Collinson (left) and David Jarvis (right) presenting Dr. Jim Rathbun (middle) with his new tiller
inductee, Dr. Jim Rathbun, who was one of the founding members of the fleet with his boat Hey Jude.
Rod Wilmer, the Fleet Captain, was the MC for the evening, introducing our presenters, Scott Collinson and Terry McLaughlin. Their stories demonstrated that Jim has been a tireless promoter of the Fleet along the way to his eleven major regatta victories and countless wins at local regattas. Later Hey Jude crew David Jarvis and Scott presented Jim with a new tiller as his old tiller was in splinters and held together by duct tape.
Our first inductee was Ian Farquharson, who purchased the first J105, Sonic Boom, which started
it all at the RCYC over 20 years ago.

The J105 was introduced in 1991 by JBoats and over 680 boats are sailing worldwide. The Class Association is owner managed with annual sail purchased restrictions to keep the racing affordable and strict rules for only Category 1 crew to keep the racing Corinthian.
While the J105 is a perfect boat for Lake Ontario and the RCYC, it is the owners and crew, who make the Fleet a success. The J105 Hall of Fame is our way to acknowledge those who have contributed to that success. Thank you Ian and Jim.
