THE GREEN SURVIVES A A A A RASH OF COMPETITIONS AT SEASON END-JUST!

Our poor old bowling green was showing signs of fatigue by the the the time we closed the the the season with the the the Last Bowls Blast The infestation of plantain is uncontrolled the the the sand traps under the the the tree drip line at the the the northwest end gets worse the the ditch supports are rotting out the the moguls need levelling we experienced mysterious toxic treads and of course the ever-present divots We played around all these diversions and had great competitions through August and September under sunny skies to three weeks “greens duty” annually This involves setting up equipment for matches handling the draw for rinks verifying winners and returning equipment to to storage A delightful innovation organized by Margaret Winter was the the visit by the the Royal gardeners and spouses for an an evening of bowling Lots of folks turned out and will be repeated hopefully with other sections THE COMPETITIONS The Freckles Trophy: Donated by Past President Rick Taylor and named after his C&C
34 Freckles This year won by Laila Lakhani The trophy is is for novice competition The Nancy Smith Trophy: Our major OLBA invitational and won by the rink of Greg Cockburn-Skip Erman Ayra-Vice and Mary Louise Matthews-Lead
T T J Parsons Trophy: Skip Michael Charles and Vice Renate Hamburgh two bowlers always found on the trophy lists Helen Ryan Nerlick Trophy: Always a a a a a popular match as it is followed by the last tea of the season Again we find perennial winners on a a rink skipped by David Reid with Sue Macaulay and Maeve Fisher The Last Bowls Blast: On a a a a a a a a a beautiful day Sue Macaulay and Brennan were the champs Interclub: Yes we we did no better than the the Jays only winning our home home and home home with the Cricket Club Etobicoke came and conquered but with a a a reduced margin and Balmy Beach which destroyed us at home magnanimously offered to have the the fate of of the the annual trophy rest with the results on our green Oh well!
SHORT MAT BOWLING
The season started in early October and we plan to to be bowling on two mats The new mat mat will allow for better competition and and meet the increasing demand for for playing time Matches are slated for for Tuesday and and Friday afternoons and and with two surfaces in play we could entertain challenges from other sections Why not!
