FINAL REFLECTION
"WRITING II" is a fundamental part of our path to English language proficiency.
Many of us focus too much on "speaking" because we believe it is the most important thing
when we communicate. I am satisfied with what I have achieved in this program. "WRITING
II" is a subject that allows us to continue practicing and developing our skills through writing
and it is more effective when we practice in our daily life.
First, the topics that were covered in grammar were: what expository paragraph is and
why it has three levels, what is a logical division paragraph and finding a basis of logical
division, cause and effect essay: time order and order of importance, comparison/contrast
essay combining similarities and differences. Also, an argumentative essay using the correct
process and opposing points of view. We also covered paragraphs, in which we figured out
how to use the quoting, paraphrasing, citing sources, and summarizing; ellipsis and brackets
to include a complete sentence, several sentences, or part of a sentence from a source.
Moreover, in paraphrasing, we focused to change the vocabulary and grammar of a statement
while keeping the original meaning. When we citing sources, we must identify the source of
our information.
Another useful part was learning to recognize the two types of outline, where we
learned to organize the topic sentence, supporting ideas, and details. Also, to write an essay,
we used modal verbs, transitions, conjunctions, parallel structures, qualifiers, conditional
statements, linking words, adjectives, adverbs, and noun clauses. The book that we used
provided us some readings with comprehension questions to discuss and compare ideas.
Finally, we practice and improved the writing skill when we wrote essays according to the
topic in each unit.
