HILL CLIMB EXHIBITION
t was easy to see that the crowds loved having the ‘old’ Tower Street Hill Climb back – if you weren’t there for yourself, take a look at the cover of this Rally News for a glimpse of the crowds!
Bob Coy of the United States Classic Racing Association (USCRA) voluntarily organized this event and man, what an event it was! The big AMA Sanctioned PRO-AM Hill Climbs are still held on Wednesday at Gunstock Mountain Resort but back in the very beginning, all of hill climbs took place on Tower Street, which at that time was steep and unpaved!
Antique motorcycles of all kinds took to the ‘stage’ in 2018 and raced for time up the steep (and bumpy!) Tower Street. The winning time of 11.5-seconds was achieved by Bailey Sisson of Northfield, Massachusetts. Bailey was riding a 1967 Triumph Daytona 500 and among her fel- low racers were motorcycles as old as the original event itself, including a 1917 Indian Scout with a sidecar.
On Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 – The “Hillclimb Exhibi- tion” returns to Tower Street and with an extended time from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Make sure to get there early for a good viewing spot along the Tower Street hill. There will be plenty of lodging available in the Laconia area with special ‘early bird’ rates so you can enjoy yourself at all the Motorcycle Week activities then stay the night and hit the PRO-AM AMA- Sanctioned Hillclimb at Gunstock on Wednesday! H
