ALPINE BUTTERFLY KNOT
This symmetrical knot is sometimes used by
climbers, who loop it around the chest. It will
hold equally well whichever end is held; it can
be tied quickly; the loop does not shrink when
the knot is tightened; and it (<In be easily
untied. Its main disadvantage is that it is
difficult to tie and with the increased use of the
Italian hitch, the Alpine Butterfly knot has lost
much of its popularity.
