ed along and finally got home. Edward had gotten dinner
and had the table set when it hit. But we couldn’t see the
floors or table for dust. We always had to light the lamps
so we could see. It was so hard to do the chores and milk
cows during these storms. We still didn’t get rain, the cattle
didn’t look good, so Otto sold ours, somewhere around 60
head. The man who bought them lost a few of them with
dust pneumonia, we were told.
By the last of May, we had decided to pack up and leave.
Got a new Ford. Otto made a trailer. We stored our furni-
ture in an empty house which a neighbor had. Took all we
could in the trailer and left. It rained hard the night before

a couple of creeks to get thru. We reached Idaho (Bonners

Ferry) the 7 of June. We left Kansas the first day of June.
