OBITUARY - B.Venkatachalam Pillai
Mr. B. Venkatachalam Pillai (83) freedom fighter
;advocate, veteran co-operator and form er MLA from
Tirchy district died at Pennadam early this morning.
after being bedridden for the last few months. He is
survived by his wife. a daughter and two sons.
He participated in the 'Quit India' movement of 1942
when he was interned in the Central Prison, Tiruchi.
Elected to the Madras Legislative Assembly in 1948 he
was also president of the Tiruchi District Board during
1942-48
Parliamentary Secretary to Mr. Bhakthavatsalam in
the Prakasam Ministry in the composite State of Madras
he was also for sometime director of the Tamil Nadu
State Co-operative Bank and State Supply and Marketing
Society (now TANFED),
Mr. Venkatachalam Pillai was 'president of the
Tiruchirapalli District Co-operative Supply and Marketing
Society from 1953 to 1967. He was also president of the
Tirchi District Co-operative Central Bank and chairman
of the district's market committee for more than a decade-
