OBITUARY - B.Venkatachalam Pillai
Mr. B.Venkatachalam Pillai the veteran freedom
fighiter one of the pioneers of the Co-operative movement
in TamilNadu.and a parilamentary Secretary to Mr.
Bhaktavatsalam in the Prakasam Ministry in the
composite Madras State. passed away this morning at
pennadam in South Arcot district.
A leader advocate. Mr. Pillai was till recently
practising in the Ariyalur Bar in Tiruchi district.
Soft spoken and humble. the 83 year old
venkatachalam Pillai had an impressive array of
achievement to his credit.
He underwent impresonment in the Quit India
Movement in 1942.
He was President of the Tiruchi District Board during
1942-43 and the then Governor of the State declared
the Board as the best in the State.
He was President of the Tirchi District Co-operative
Supply and Marketing Society for more than 15 years.
He was also President of the Tiruchi District Co-operative
Central Bank and was Chairman of the Tirchi District
Market Committee for more than a decade He also
headed the District Co-operative Spining Mills.
Mr. Pillai is survived by his wife eight daughters and
two sons.
one of his sons Mr.V. Venugopal is Advisor to the
Ministry of Housing and worksw, New Mahallinagam
retired Technical Member. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.
