Day 2: Hanoi – Halong Bay (B)
Visit Ho Chi Minh memorial complex, Ba Dinh Square, the
Presidential Hall, the little iconic One-Pillar Pagoda. Excursion to
Halong Bay. Upon arrival at the pier embark a cruise ship for an
fabulous overnight bay cruise through the karst scenery of this
UNESCO’s natural heritage. Overnight on board.
Day 3: Halong – Hanoi – Night train (B)
Enjoy the morning cruise until around noon. Drive back to
Hanoi. Visit Ngoc Ha flower village where a leftover piece of a
B52 is kept since it was shot down; visit Hoa Lo Prison where
US pilots were kept till the release in 1972. Tranfer to the railway
station and catch the night train (SE1) bounding for Dong Hoi.
Overnight aboard the train.
Day 4: Dong Hoi – Phong Nha (B)
The train arrives in Dong Hoi. Short drive up hill and check in at
Lake Resort - a peaceful eco lodge. Breakfast and have the rest
of the morning to relax. Early afternoon, set out on a bicycle tour
to the neighbouring villages including Bong Lai and Gia Hung.
Overnight at Lake Resort.
Day 5: Phong Nha – Khe Sanh (B)
Excursion to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, visit the
Paradise Cave named after its heavenly stalactite formation.
Vietnam toward Khe Sanh. Visit the old sites of Ta Con Airfield and Khe
Start the scenic drive through mountains and jungle landscape
Sanh Combat Base. Overnight in Khe Sanh.
Old Battle Day 6: Khe Sanh – Hue (B)
Depart Khe Sanh and follow Route 9 driving east to the coastal
Fields to wn of Dong Ha. En route visit Dakrong Bridge the start point
of East Truong Son war trails; the Rock Pile famous observation
station overlooking the DMZ belt. Turn north to visit Hien Luong
Bridge which marks the 17th Parallel and the border point of
the wartime North and South Vietnam. Visit the underground
tunnel in Vinh Moc and drive back to Hue. Overnight at Huong
Giang Hotel in Hue.
15 days Day 7: Hue (B)
Visit the Citadel of Hue the capital stronghold of the last
Vietnamese mornachy since 1982 from 1945. Drive through
some streets which witnessed fierce events during 1968 Tet
Offense. Dinner at Carambole. Overnight at Huong Giang Hotel.
Tour In Detail Day 8: Hue – Danang (B)
Visit the Imperial Tomb of Tu Duc. Drive south toward Hoi An,
en route crossing the scenic Pass of Cloud. Take a walk over the
Nam O Bridge overlooking the beach of Xuan Thieu where the
first US combat unit landed in Vietnam in 1965 marking the
start of US military engagement in the Second Indochina War.
Visit the site of Marble Mountain Air Facility (MMAF) an aviation
facility used primarily by the United States Marine Corps from
Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi (D) 1965 to 1971, home to Marine Aircraft Group 16, the 5th Special
Arrive in Hanoi. Visit Hanoi’s highlights including Ngoc Son Forces Group and an assortment of other squadrons. Overnight
Temple, the Old Quarter, John McCain memorial, the Military at Furama Resort.
Museum. Overnight in Hanoi.
