Welcome to the Lancer Scott Stadum

Good afternoon and welcome to you all,
particularly to the officials, players and
supporters who have made the journey
up the M5 from Cornwall for the first ever
visit of Millbrook F.C. to the Lancer Scott.
        Like us, Millbrook gained promotion
(from the South West Peninsula league)
on a points per game basis following the
        F.A.’s pyramid re-structure. While the
downside is the vastly increased mileage,
the beauty is meeting new opponents,
different grounds and committees’, something that came up in a conversation I
had with the Mousehole chairman last week. Deryck kindly rang to thank our
club for a very enjoyable recent visit to Backwell, praised our hospitality and that
was from a chairman whose side were 3rd from top and just lost 1-0 to 2nd from
bottom. I would take the same again today, our visitor’s may say differently!
What happened to the traditional home/away /home fixture list? Today is the 4th
of 5 consecutive home games, I noticed Millbrook had 4 away games on the
bounce in December. This does have an impact on the volunteers we all rely
upon to fulfil the fixtures and possibly supporter’s pockets. I know the fixture
secretary has a tough job but….? We had another 200 plus crowd here last week
for the lively, local derby v Clevedon Town, thank you to all who attended, it’s
very much appreciated. Beech’s team gained another point, making it 5 games
        unbeaten here.
Thank you to Jo Shepard and Mike West from Backwell camera club for their
action photos that can be seen on our revamped website, the League website,
local press and in this magazine.
Well done to assistant manger Jim Williams for taking on the task of bringing the
club website up to date, it can be found at www.pitchero.com/clubs/
        ashtonbackwellunited
I would like welcome back a young but familiar face to the side, Jamie White.
Jamo joined us in 2018 as an “innocent” 17 year old, playing over 60 games and
seeing him develop as a player. 3 years in the Western league and now a 20 year
old student in Gloucester, I’m sure that innocence has gone!
Have a read of Beech’s column, he has some great news about our keeper, Joel
        Manning.
Thank you for your support today, enjoy the game and please respect the
        officials. .
        UP THE STAGS, Mike, Chairman
