Match Report
On a damp and windy day the Foxes welcomed Almondsbury to Iron mould
lane. Unbeaten in their last two the visitors had recorded a respectable 3
draws 2 wins and 2 losses in 2023, whilst their hosts were on an 11 game
winning streak.
Scoring 48 and conceding 12, in the process (24 for 0 in their last 5).
Manager Lee Perks opted to make changes. Skipper Asa White, George
Jones and keeper Dorrington were ‘MIA’ and the hard working Oaklan Buck
who has been on fire recently was rested. Back available to join Buck on the
bench was Harry Tobin a er a calf injury and Ash McGrane.
The early signs were ominous when on 3 minutes striker Dean Griffiths
made up a lot of ground to latch on to a Lewis Ewins through ball in almost
a carbon copy of Brislington’s first against Wincanton in the previous game,
He was again brought down by the goalkeeper for a penalty. With Asa
White missing the classy Jordan Ricke s stepped up to dispatch to the
keepers right. The keeper guessed correctly and managed to get a glove on
the ball but was unable to stop the well struck effort 1-0 Brislington.
The next ten minutes could easily have seen the foxes add to their tally with
a string of decent chances that were well well saved by the Almondsbury no
1, first Doddimead latched on to a through ball from me ers, Ricke s had
a powerful effort pushed over the bar a er good work inside the box and
Joe McLennan was unlucky not to finish with his head. However the home
side were not firing on all cylinders and the Gri y visitors were taking
advantage of Brislington’s lacklustre passing and complacency in the final
areas. indeed it was the lack of coherent shape which allowed
Almondsbury’s Cole Jones through on goal but stand in keeper Liam May
made a terrific save to keep Brislington ahead. At the other end Joe
McLennan hit the side ne ng Less than a minute later.
On the half hour mark an off the ball moment of madness from Almonds
centre half Ma Paton le Doddimead on the ground and was spo ed by
the linesman, this le the ref with no op on but to dismiss the player with
a straight red. The Almond’s already difficult task was made that extra bit
harder!! The rest of the half was scrappy with the 10 men working hard,
and Brislington unable to exploit the numerical advantage.
