Match Report
21/02/23 Brislington V Tytherington Rocks
The two sides met in September at Hardwicke, playing out what was for the Foxes a
frustra ng 0-0 draw, on a pitch so narrow throw ins were in danger of going out for a
throw-in opposite, and the linesmen were at risk of bumping in to each other!!
That night, a combina on of missed opportuni es and an inspired goalkeeping display
from The Rocks’ number one Kyreese Johnson somehow conspired to keep the scores
level. A total of 27 a empts on goal were recorded on the Brislington matchday Twi er
feed, although plenty more were missed!!
Brislington Manager Lee Perks who (lucky for him) missed the first game, made more
changes to the star ng line up from Saturday’s home win against strugglers Almondsbury
who sat one point, and one place above the evening’s visitors, although Tytherington
having two games in hand at the start of play.
Dean Griffiths, dropped to the bench, and fullbacks Lewis Ewins and Jack Allward were
rested along with George Jones. A refreshed Oaklan Buck replaced Griffiths and Harry
Tobin and Ben Tucker came in at le and right back respec vely.
TON-UP BREAKS THE DEADLOCK
The game started as it had done in September’s away fixture with Brislington threatening
the Rocks goal. Danny Doddimead was fed through by Buck, but his heavy touch allowed
the keeper to make the save at his feet, and two minutes later Doddimead had another
chance which was again well saved.
The shape from the home side was excellent, and they set about moving the ball out from
the back, and mixing the play between short and long passes which kept Tytherington in a
large part to defending waves of a acks.
Both Tucker and Tobin were ge ng forward well, and the energy and movement of
McLennan, Scadding, Buck and Doddimead was crea ng gaps for Ricke s and Me ers to
exploit with probing through balls. In between, any forays from the visitors were shut
down quickly although Callum Wright had one effort on the Foxes’ goal from outside the
box.
With lots of possession and numerous efforts it looked like another frustra ng ‘bore draw’
could possibly be on the cards; Un l the 27th minute. Buck fought off two heavy
challenges, emerging with the ball on the right, his ball inside found Doddimead who in
turn found Scadding making one of his trademark runs beyond the back line. Scadding held
off the a empts of two retrea ng Rocks defenders to finish calmly past the outcoming
keeper, who had finally been breached a er 120 minutes of football between the two
sides. 1-0 Brislington.
Incidentally Scadding’s goal marked Brislington’s 100th in all compe ons for the season
so far.
FOXES DOUBLE THEIR LEAD
Five minutes later it was two. A er an a ack down the le had broken down, McLennan
worked hard to retrieve the ball, taking on his man and turning back inside to deliver an
inch-perfect cross to Me ers, who stooped to head the ball home at the far post. 2-0
Brislington.
Tytherington were figh ng hard to try and stay in the game, and in all fairness looked
be er than their league posi on suggested, however the movement and quality of the
home side was far superior and Brislington were u erly dominant in possession. This led
to a couple of t-for-tat challenges producing yellow cards, adding a bit of spice for the
