Bris v Radstock Town

One-nil leads are always precarious, no ma er how good the performance is, goals are the true
decider. There's always the chance that a mis-hit cross, or breakaway a ack can undo any gains,
se ng doubt into the minds where earlier there was confidence, many a game has changed with a
momentum swing caused by a goal scored against the run of play!
The home side were loathed to relinquish their lead, and posi vely set about trying to increase it. A
string of corners led to a free kick from the Radstock le around 30 yards from goal. The (once again)
excellent Jordan Williams floated an inch perfect delivery to the far post where Lewis Dunn rose
highest to head past the keeper only to see his effort strike the crossbar, however Doddimead was
on hand to nod in the rebound at the far post. 2-0 Brislington.
Far from sinking the visitors though it seemed to allow them some freedom to ‘risk’ by commi ng
bodies forward. This was by far Radstock’s best spell and with a few of the Foxes players ring they
set about trying to get back into the game. This did leave plenty of gaps however the home side
couldn’t capitalise on despite some good build up play.
Dean Griffiths came on for Doddimead on 60 mins, shortly followed by George Jones who replaced
Ben Withey, both players introduc on would be decisive in the final outcome, although not
immediately. With ten minutes le lively Radstock forward Jack Pearson finished well a er a good
spell of pressure, his touch and finish halving the deficit and li ing the visitors into process. The
home side started to concede ground and there was nearly an equaliser soon a er when a free kick
just outside the Brislington box was almost converted by a Radstock defender however his free
header missed the target and spurred the home side back into ac on.
With renewed vigour the Foxes went back onto the offensive making the most of the space offered
by the visitors who were now looking very open. On 87 minutes Griffiths increased Brislingtons lead
by calmly finishing the good work by Buck who‘d cut in from the right, the ball trickling just inside the
far post with the goalkeeper at full stretch. Two minutes later it was Griffiths again who hammered
the last nail into Radstock’s fight back. Picking the ball up on the le , the striker outpaced two
defenders and smashed his le footed shot into the top corner of the far post ending the e and
Radstock’s unbeaten start to the season.
All in all, although the late goals sealed the win, the home side were far superior for the majority of
this e, and the final result was a fair reflec on of their dominance.
