Comfortable Win over Su on
Brislington vs Bishop Su on 31/08/23
A er 10 games in 4 weeks since the opening day of the season, a lethargic-looking
Brislington took on bo om side Bishop Su on, Su on having taken only one point from
their opening 9 games, conceding 28 and scoring just five goals in the process.
Lee Perks was without Dean Griffiths who looks to be side-lined for a while a er suffering
a knee injury in Saturday's FA Vase win at Oldland. Also absent were Danny Barwood
(suspended), Lewis Ewins, and Jack Allward. Perks, however, welcomed back Lewis Dunn,
Danny Doddimead and Asa White.
The Foxes were on the front foot from the start and there was no sympathy paid to the
Toolsta on Western League division 1 strugglers. It took less than ten minutes to open the
scoring, George Jones ge ng his first goal of the new campaign from his favoured number
9 role a er Danny Doddimead slipped him in with a de pass. Jones finished with his right
foot, in-off goalkeeper Taylor’s post. Nine minutes gone, 1-0 Brislington.
Four minutes later it was Jones again! Ben Withey‘s glorious pass found the striker's run
and his clinical le -foot finish nestled in the keeper's bo om-le -hand corner from the
middle of the box. 2-0 with less than 15 minutes played.
The hardworking Su on side didn’t lie down, and were looking far be er than their league
posi on suggested. They just lacked composure when it ma ered most, and too o en an
unforced error conceded possession back to the home side who capitalised ruthlessly.
Brislington suffered an early blow when Joel Smith was the vic m of a nasty high challenge
leaving him with a harsh bruise and broken skin on his shin, the Su on player fortunate not
to see red! Smith, unable to con nue, was replaced by Asa White, who himself missed the
last game due to injury. Smith was shortly followed off the pitch by Doddimead with a thigh
injury, his replacement being Oaklan Buck.
ll, the home side furthered their lead, this me it was Jordan Williams pouncing to follow
up a low Josh Egan free kick. Just right of centre, and just outside the 18-yard-box, Egan‘s
low strike was parried by Taylor and it was Williams who followed up fastest to hammer his
strike into the roof of the net. 3-0 to the Foxes with less than 20 minutes gone.
At this point it looked ominous for Su on who were staring a heavy defeat square in the
eye. However, this didn’t deter the work rate or indeed the considerable individual quality
their young side undoubtedly has. This lead to their best spell in the game: however, their
passing style was probably ul mately to their detriment. The visitors were s ll expansive
and trying to play some a rac ve football, which le them vulnerable when possession
turned. Too o en they lacked the quality to capitalise on earlier good work.
The home side, who were looking leggy, changed to a more familiar shape to try and regain
some control, but although they were three goals to the good they were far from their
best!

The hosts looked comfortable but were less dynamic, Su on, on the other hand, con nued
to make life difficult with their honest work rate.
