Common Use
Joining rappel ropes
Square Knot with backup.
Half Hitch
By itself, the Half Hitch is near worthless. Its only use is as a backup, to secure the end of more
trustworthy knots. Even then, you should employ the Half Hitch only when no other backup will do,
such as when you are out of rope and the miserly Half Hitch is the only knot that will fit in the short
piece.
