Day three and I’m getting used to the Dawn, I could easily live with this car. I’m bouncing around London from meeting to meeting, I’ve got used to the attention by now, but I’m still not convinced it’s biased to the positive side. I think the current climate sees it as an overt display of wealth, but we should really be proud of this marque and its heratidge as an iconic national treasure. Yes the parent company is BMW, but Rolls Royce’s are built in the their factory at Goodwood. The workforce is highly skilled and probably a lot younger than you’d imagine. No production cars are actually hand built anymore, but this is as close as you get. Every detail is perfect, it drives beautifully and even averaged 20mpg over the three days, which is outstanding when one whole day was shuffing around London. When we see a Rolls Royce pass us we shouldn’t be concerned with the person driving, just the fact that they have enough taste to buy into a truly British brand that encompasses every strand of the DNA that Mr Rolls and Mr Royce strove to inject into the their cars. It has truly stood the test of time, adapted to the modern economics of global car building and become globally accepted as an iconic motorcar. You have to drive one to understand the feeling. This is the best car in the world.As I hand it back to HR Owen in Berckay Square the salesman, who’s known me for a while asks what I thought. It’s simple, there are various accolades handed out around the world to cars, such as the Car Of The Year at the Geneva Motor Show etc etc. But in my book there is one much higher, probably the highest award any car could achieve… and this is what I told the guys at Rolls Royce when asked what I thought….
