 MASSERIA
MODENA
Another surprise nd, John and I had collected a Maserati MC Stradale from the factory and were en-route to Monza for the Formula One, when an old boy at the factory recommended we visit the private Maserati museum at Hombre Farm, so after an hour spent in Umberto Panini’s barn we asked if they could recommend a place for lunch. A map was drawn on a scrap of paper and we were on our way. A few miles down the road and all we could see was a shop with some old guys sitting outside playing dominos. As I slowed outside they pointed, to my right was a small car park and a pathway to a door that looked like a house. Above the door was the sign we were looking for Restaurant Masseria (and some Michelin Stars) inside the door was a typical Italian Osteria with understated décor and a what looked like a lot of local business people having lunch. The homemade pasta and fabulous sauce left an impression I can still close my eyes and taste today, the house wine was an Antinori , it was perfect – if only I hadn’t got a brand new Maserati to drive to Monza we could have made an afternoon of it like a real Italian lunch.
