Curriculum

           Transition Year

Transition Year provides a bridge between Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate, offering a broad
and very rich educational experience promoting the personal, social, academic and vocational
development of each student. It provides us with opportunities to create new learning environments
in which each student can discover their own individual
           talents, aptitudes and abilities.

Our aim is always to prepare students to take their
rightful place in society as independent, resilient,
creative and curious individuals who will be
instrumental in contributing to society. We encourage
the involvement of parents, employers and the local
community in the Transition Year Programme,
specifically through our Enterprise and Law, Future
Leaders, STEM, North/South Development, Visual Arts
modules etc. and appreciate the kind co-operation of
NUIG with many programmes undertaken by students.

Career Guidance and specific student direction is an integral part of the programme and will include a
work experience module. The expanded curriculum offers students the opportunity to taste and
reflect on career possibilities enabling them to make informed choices for the future in terms of Third
           level entry and career paths.

Religious Studies form an integral part of the course and will encompass a wide range of community
work including Social Care Outreach, Meals on Wheels, John Paul II awards for parish work and local
           fundraising.
Transition Year is also a wonderful opportunity to build
relationships and this is successfully achieved through team
building events and activities in the great outdoors. Our
enviable campus location is ideally suited and facilitates these
                                                  many activities.

In March each year, for what many students claim to be the
highlight of the year, is the TY Musical. This forum affords an
opportunity to all students to get involved in the arts in some
way. Whether it is building/painting the sets, looking after
the props or lights, camera, action music they make memories
                                                  to last a lifetime.
