Israelites were used to the cleansing of sins which was prepared by the Priests and to
some it was tough for them to believe that Jesus is the Lamp of God because they
couldn’t understand the meaning of what John the Baptist meant. They didn’t have
faith in Jesus Christ as the Lamp of God since they knew Jesus as the son of Joseph the
Carpenter, then all unexpected he is the Lamp of God whom they waited for many
years. He did not perform many miracles there because of their unbelief (Matthew
13:58).
In our day, some people still reject Jesus Christ as the flawless sacrifice for the sins of
the world. There are many beliefs that are venturing around the world of cleansing sins.
If one is cleansing his sins completely, what is he actually cleansing? If the sacrifice
which was prepared by the Levites was just a plain shadow of what would come, then
what were they doing then? When the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, he told
himself, “I will never again curse the land because of human beings—even though
human inclinations remain evil from youth, nor will I destroy every living being ever
again, as I’ve done (Genesis 8:21). It is out of the heart that evil thoughts come, as well
as murder, adultery, sexual immorality, stealing, false testimony, and slander (Matthew
15:19). "Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed
tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full all uncleanness”.
So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy
and lawlessness (Matthew 23:27-28). This is indicating that the nature of a heart is
corrupt by default. Now the sacrifices done in the olden days were a reflection of what
would happen with the baptism of Christ. Sacrifices were done to cleanse the outside,
leaving the heart recalcitrant. We are all infected and contaminated with sin inwardly.
When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn
leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind (Isaiah 64:6).For
everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard (Romans 3:23). Now
seeing the nature of the heart that it is corrupt and no one can understand it besides
