NCCP Coaches Attend Comp Dev Seminar By Alexandra Roy
A record number of 18 coaches attended the NCCP Comp Dev Sport-specific Module at the Karate Canada Summit held last October.
An updated NCCP webpage has been up on the Karate Canada website since September. It includes a
new version of the NCCP Operations Manual and guidelines and information on the program as a whole as well as the different contexts.
NCCP Committee members met in October in Toronto to review the material for the Competition Introduction context. Updated manuals should be available soon
to PTSOs and Learning Facilitators.
Last January, the Coaching Association of Canada in collaboration with Karate Canada held an Evaluator sport-specific training in Toronto.
Coaches also had the opportunity to become certified as evaluations were held the same weekend.
Karate Canada would like to thank the CAC and the Ontario Karate Federation for their collaboration on this event.
Do not hesitate to contact your PTSO to hold an Instruction Beginner or Competition Introduction workshop or contact Karate Canada’s Program Manager (alexandra.roy@karatecanada.org) to organize a Competition Development Karate specific workshop for your coaches.
Karate Canada would like to congratulate the following coaches for getting their Comp Dev Certified status between January 2016 and January 2017:
• Leirick Chung, ON;
• Leivin Chung, ON;
• Rodney Hobson, BC;
• Louise Provencher, QC;
• David Strohbach, AB; and • Roy Tippenhauer, BC.

differential plus at least one additional point in order to win.
“Recent analysis of results
at major international events, as part of our preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games,
has shown a very strong correlation between results at top European Karate-1 events and results at Senior World Championships, which are thus far the strongest karate events in the world,” said Executive Director Olivier Pineau.
“Our growing and continued success at these K-1 events is therefore very tangible and encouraging evidence of our athletes’ potential to reach the podium in Tokyo, three years from now.”
