From our President
Karate Canada Team is on a Roll
By Craig Vokey President
A lot has happened since the last newsletter.
The Karate Canada Junior team turned in its best ever performance at
the Junior Pan American Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador; Para athletes won a gold and silver medal at the WKF World Championships in Austria and most recently senior women earned two bronze medals at the Paris Open K1 event.
Of note, the Kata program turned in two top-10 placings at the Senior Worlds as well.
Our coaching staff is to be congratulated as are the athletes who continue to represent us with distinction.
On the officiating side many officials have acquired or upgraded their PKF licences and we have a number of new WKF level officials as well.
Congratulations to Jaroslav Tarana for his continued work in guiding our officials to success.
I would also like to welcome the Ontario Karate Federation to the Karate Canada family.
The OKF is the new representative for Karate in the province of Ontario and
I would like to congratulate and welcome Brad Jones as its first President.
The OKF looks to be bringing the biggest team to the National Championships since 2010 with many familiar faces and with
Jim Jennings as the Head Coach.
I would also like to acknowledge and congratulate Antonio Terra and his team for their hard work and dedication in transitioning the old association into the new.
In the words of Henry
Ford “Coming together
is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
It has now been one year since I have had the honour to serve as the president of Karate Canada.
I would like to thank my fellow Board members for being willing to make the difficult but right decisions in 2016; our staff, for continuously performing above and beyond, but mostly our many dedicated volunteers, coaches, officials and parents for giving so much for the love of the sport and for the athletes. 2017 will be an amazing year.
fffPresident Craig Vokey
