History Solves the Problem
The dysfunction in todays Government is nothing new. In the 1890's, members of the Populist Party proposed
comprehensive political reforms in order to reign in corrupt, unresponsive, and unaccountable state and local
governments. The Initiative and Referendum Process was born, and for 125 years this Process has been a critical
tool for the people.
Today, the idea of some type of
National Referendum System has
been circulating for years, and in
1994, the record of the 103rd
Congress shows considerable
interest in the subject, especially
in regard to term limits,
balanced budget, and line item
veto issues. Additionally, a
2013 Gallup Poll showed that 68% of Americans support a National Referendum System on key issues, up from 46%
in 2010.
Unlike the United States, many countries rely extensively on putting key ‘national’ issues in front of their voters.
And although 24 States in the U.S. have an Initiative Process, Congress as a whole wants nothing to do with it.
One thing is for certain, citizens today are no longer willing to accept force-fed policies from a ‘we-know-what’s-
best-for-you’ Congress, and they are insisting on shared ownership for those decisions. TrumpVote.online provides
the technology to accomplish that.
