Good Feedback: the Key to Improving Learning and
Teaching
In education, feedback plays an extremely important role. It not only encourages learning, but
also develops students' awareness of their own progress and creates a stimulating environment
for learning. Quality feedback recognizes and highlights student strengths, is directed toward
set goals, and clearly communicates the next steps for further progress. Teachers have a key
role in providing effective feedback that encourages learning and development in students.
Feedback is necessary for the development of quality education. They serve as a tool for
communication between teachers, students and parents, contributing to better collaboration and
understanding of student progress.
Key elements of quality feedback include the use of positive language, an individualized
approach to each student, and a variety of feedback methods. Positive language involves the
use of affirmative expressions and encouraging comments to highlight student strengths and
achievements. An individualized approach requires adjusting feedback to the individual needs
and levels of each student, taking into account different learning styles and rates of progress.
The use of different feedback methods may include oral feedback, written comments, formative
assessment, and the use of technology tools to provide a comprehensive picture of student
progress.
Quality feedback is targeted, constructive and inspiring. It is essential that teachers be consistent
and timely in providing feedback to enable students to continue to grow and develop. Feedback
should be constructive and useful for the student, focusing on specific aspects of learning,
providing clear guidelines for improvement and supporting the student in further development.
Teachers should be sensitive to the individual needs of each student and adjust feedback to
encourage their progress and confidence. Active student participation in the feedback process,
including self-assessment and peer assessment, is also of utmost importance to encourage
learning and the development of critical thinking.
Through a supportive learning culture, teachers can help students reach their full potential and
develop a lifelong love of learning. It is important for teachers to be open to feedback from their
students in order to continually improve their teaching and mentoring methods. Transitioning
to a feedback culture that focuses on learning rather than assessment requires time and practical
application by teachers, students and parents. Regular feedback and support encourage change
in communication between students and teachers and contribute to the creation of a culture of
learning.
