Ultrasound Diagnosis of Diseases of the Kidney and
Urinary System
Diseases of the kidneys and urinary system are most often of an inflammatory nature caused by
bacteria, viruses or fungi. The most common way of spreading the infection and entering the
urinary system is through the external opening of the urethra (in men, at the top of the penis,
and in women, at the opening of the urethra at the point where it opens to the pubis in women).
An infection develops that spreads upwards towards the bladder, ureters and kidneys.
Ultrasound diagnostics is one of the methods of diagnosing inflammatory diseases of the
kidneys and diseases of the urinary system. Kidney ultrasound is a diagnostic test that uses
high-frequency ultrasound waves to create a detailed picture of the kidney. This procedure
makes it possible to display the size, shape, structure and position of the kidneys and to identify
possible abnormalities such as kidney stones, cysts, tumors or inflammatory changes. Kidney
ultrasound is a safe, quick and painless procedure. This diagnostic test is essential for assessing
kidney health, diagnosing various kidney diseases, and monitoring the course of treatment. As
part of the ultrasound examination of the kidneys, the bladder is also examined, and the prostate
is examined, where its size is determined.
Various diseases and conditions can cause kidney failure, and it can be acute or chronic. Kidney
failure is a serious condition that requires treatment, and it is very important to recognize it in
time. The poster will show the symptoms of the disease, risk factors for the development of the
disease, and the preparation of the patient for ultrasound of the kidneys and urinary system, as
well as the procedure.
Key words: inflammatory diseases of the kidneys and urinary system, risk factors, examination,
patient preparation.
