and helps them file before tax day. They have
14 “GO” Centers on Fort Worth ISD cam-
puses whose goal is to stop kids from drop-
ping out of high school. They do this through
college and career mentors that help them in
sixth through eight grade by providing them
reasons and incentives to finish high school
and either go to college or join the workforce.
United Way of Tarrant County also caters to
our elderly through the Area Agency on
Aging. This agency serves more than 40,000
people annually including older adults, care-
               givers and people with disabilities.
Obviously this is a tremendous undertaking
and can only see positive results by having
other members of the community take part.
That’s where you come in. There are several
ways you can help. You can make an individ-
               ual donation or encourage others—even
businesses to do so. You could join one of the
“Giving Societies.”These are groups you can
get involved in for nominal yearly donations
and bring you different benefits as you help
serve the community. They allow you to net-
work with other local leaders who share your
values, attend social events, gain additional
knowledge on how to help your Tarrant
County community, work on volunteer and
advocacy projects, and could also help you
               receive public recognition and exclusive
monthly e-newsletters, (not that we’re saying
that is what you would do it for.)

You could start your own campaign at work
to help raise money so you can become part
of one of these giving societies. More than
200 companies spread across more than 900
               individual worksites across Tarrant County
hold United Way campaigns each year. They
have all the information you need to start one
               at their website (UnitedWayTarrant.org). And
of course nothing is more valuable than the
gift of your time. Volunteers are always
needed. As a matter of fact, last year thou-
sands of people volunteered over 30,000
hours. Right now the United Way of Tarrant
County is accepting only corporate group
volunteers at this time, but you can still
volunteer as an individual by going directly
to one of their partner organizations.
If you’re wondering why you should support
the United Way of Tarrant County, look at it
as an easy way for you to be able to help in
all the different municipalities in the area all at
one time. The reach they have is wide and so
many are doing so much to help make Tarrant
County a place where everyone has a chance
and neighbors can help neighbors. And that’s
a community we all want to be a part of.
