Almost 100 years ago Tarrant County was

growing and becoming a force in Texas.

Fort Worth had over 100,000 citizens,
WBAP radio was using the new medium to

serve the area (side note: WBAP stood for

We Bring A Program) and altruistic citizens
in the area wanted to do what all good

people in a community want to do—help
those in need. Many charities existed in the

area at the time, but in 1922 community

leaders decided to take the combined fund
raising efforts of those charities and band

them together to form the Fort Worth
Community Chest—the first Community

Chest in the Southwest and forerunner

of United Way of Tarrant County.
