THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA PREAMBLE
Multi party democracy is necessary part of basic structure of the Constitution. (Kuldip Nayar v Union of India, AIR 2006 SC 3127 : (2006)7 SCC 1).
Secularism is the basic feature of the Indian Constitution. (S.R. Bommai v Union of India, AIR 1994 SC 1918 : (1994)3 SCC 1).
The word “Secularism” in Preamble was inserted by 42nd Amendment. The secularism under the Indian Constitution does not mean constitution of an atheist society but it merely means equal status of all religions without any reference in favour of or discrimination against any one of them.
