FESTIVITIES IN THE USA
The United States of America is an interesting country which is well-
known for its festivities (type of hook: general statement). Two of the most
important ones are Halloween and Thanksgiving Day and there are a lot of
differences between them. (Thesis statement)
st
First, Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31 . People
especially children go out and ask for candies. Also, they wear interesting and
scary costumes and masks. Furthermore, people decorate their houses and
wards with spider webs or ghosts things that can scare people during this time.
Moreover, it is common at this time of the year to give your friends a
Halloween card. There is a wide variety of different cards such as witches,
black cats, and ghosts. In addition, as everybody has watched in movies,
pumpkins are popular at Halloween. Everything made of pumpkins is really in
season at this time. They are used to prepare pies, cookies etc. . . . Also,
pumpkins are used to decorate houses by drawing scary faces on the
pumpkins.
On the other hand, Thanksgiving Day is celebrated the fourth Tuesday
of November. First, it is usual to have a big turkey dinner at this time of the
year. [Families gather to celebrate, to be together because they think this day
is specifically for that to share with their families, to ask for forgiveness, to
say how much they love each other. There is a wide variety of food people
prepare at this time such as turkey, corn, pies. Also, what Thanksgiving Day
means to people is to thank god for all they have. ]
